Tarot cards are a deck of 78 cards used for divination and spiritual guidance.
Each card has its own unique meaning and symbolism.
Originally tarot cards were used as playing cards and were created in the 15th Century.
It wasn't until the 18th century that they were used for divination. The symbolism and meaning vary from each deck and the person reading them. Different people will see different meanings in the same cards, depending on what tools you have in your psychic toolbox.
Tarot is a tool to help you hone your intuition for a reading. I personally don't need them to do a reading, but they can add another layer to your reading. You can also use tarot to help you connect mediumistic.
There are a lot of ways to learn tarot. Most tarot comes with a guidebook that explains meanings, divination and some reversals. There are online blogs, tutorials, videos and other resources. You can join a tarot club or get a mentor. There are also plenty of books on the subject.
CAUTION
A lot of people learn every meaning from the booklets, and while this has a place for those types of readings. You may not develop your psychic abilities to the best of your abilities.
I suggest putting the booklet away and having a go at developing your psychic talents...
What do you feel, hear, sense, and smell when you look at the card? What colours stand out? Do you hear any words? Is the person facing forward or back in the cards? Do the cards bring in any feelings for you? Are you getting any clairvoyant flashes with that particular card? Do the colours have any meaning?
SPREADS
There are plenty of spreads you can use. Start with 3 cards. You could say past, present, and future. You should be able to get information from each card for each era. See if you can also pick up any ages. I have pulled a lot of information off one card. Normally I like to throw 3 decks mixed and see what I get from them.
One of the most famous is the Celtic cross spread which is below.
CARD 1 - CURRENT SITUATION
CARD 2 - CHALLENGE
CARD 3 - NEED TO FOCUS ON
CARD 4 - YOUR PAST/LEAVING
CARD 5 - STRENGTHS
CARD 6 - NEAR FUTURE
CARD 7 - ADVICE
CARD 8 - ENVIRONMENT
CARD 9 - HOPES AND FEARS
CARD 10 - POTENTIAL OUTCOME
DO YOU PICK A CARD OR LET THEM FALL OUT?
I think this is a personal preference. I like my cards to throw themselves at me. Others are happy to pick the cards or let your client pick the cards. You could fan the cards out and then pick the ones that call to you. I actually hate when my clients want to touch my cards. It, in fact, makes me cringe. I think because so much of my energy is working with those cards, having someone else touch them makes me feel uncomfortable.
DOES IT HAVE TO BE GIVEN AS A GIFT?
I have heard this one before. No, it doesn't have to be a gift. I like to pick my own as I need to resonate with the cards. No, it doesn't need to be wrapped in silk either.
DO THE CARDS NEED TO BE CLEANSED?
Yes, they do; you can use sage or rosemary to cleanse the energy of your cards. I also like to knock on my deck 3 times to knock out any leftover energy. You could visualise white light clearing your cards as well. I also sit my cards on a selenite-clearing plate to help keep them cleansed. How often you cleanse them depends on how often you use them. If you think the reading is off, cleanse the cards, then give them another go.
ARE TAROT CARDS EVIL OR LEAD TO EVIL THINGS?
No, tarot cards are just cards that you can use to hone your intuition. There is nothing evil here. If there was, I don't think anyone would be using them. I think TV and MOVIES have a lot to answer for.
I hope you have enjoyed this month's first blog - Katie
